Drive-In Movie? What You Need Know.

I've always wanted to go to a drive-in movie, but it's not a common location you find around anymore. However, last Friday night me and some friends decided to drive my Dad's truck an hour out of town to see what all the hype was about.

First thing you should know is prices might not be as much as a normal movie ticket. We paid $8 for two NEW movies. I was shocked, but that being said I soon realized why.
For starters you are in charge of hearing the movie and you need to figure out how you will be watching your film (i.e watching from inside the car, setting on the ground in-front of the screen, or the truck of a bed.)
We went all out, we had 2 air mattress, blankets, pillows and high expectations. Now in all honesty it was fun but here are a few tips to making sure you are fully prepared-things I wish we had taken into consideration.
1. PREPARE FOR THE SEASON.
It's summer in Texas...it. is. hot. Like you stand outside for two seconds and you're a sweaty mess. So setting all of this up as the sun is setting and making you all toasty, not the best choice. If it had been fall or winter this would have been more enjoyable.
2. BRING BUG SPRAY
Our biggest issue was the pesky mosquitos that were eating us alive through out the whole movie. If you take anything away from this list let it be that.
3. DON'T SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS TOO HIGH
This is something that you really need to know. It is a fun time but don't think that everything will be perfect and Pinterest-esk. It's more about the experience and just going with the flow.
4. TAKE A DECK OF CARDS/BOARD GAME TO PLAY BEOFRE THE MOVIE STARTS.
This is something I wish we had thought about, especially considering they told us to get there about an hour early to get a good parking spot.
5. GO WITH PEOPLE WHO WILL MAKE IT A GOOD TIME.
I went with some of my favorite people and it was because of them that all the little obstacles we had were hilarious. The amount of laughter was at an all time high, especially when I couldn't back the truck up to save my life.
6. EAT BEOFRE HAND.
You can't (well you're not suppose to) bring food into the drive-in, they have food options you can buy there, but it ain't cheap. We stopped on the way, when we were out 20 minutes away, and ate.
7. IF YOU CAN FIND A CHEAP RADIO TO TAKE, TAKE IT.
I was so worried about the truck dying, that I may have not allowed the truck to stay on the whole time, I know I'm crazy. But, if you are crazy like me, a portable radio would have been nice.
8. WEAR COMFY CLOTHES AND DITCH THE MAKEUP
This is a fun chill experience so grab your comfiest clothes, throw your hair in a bun, have a fresh face and enjoy the four hour experience (double-feature) you signed up for.
9. THINK AHEAD.
Let me be clear, I am not condoning breaking the rules, however, snacks may or may not fit under a seat or blanket just fine... What? Food and drinks were stupid expensive. Again, you're responsible for your choice...
10. ENJOY THE WORLD AROUND YOU.
Take in the moment around you, at the drive-in we went to, we had a beautiful view of all the buildings downtown. It was honestly so gorgeous to look at. We made some really fun memories and shared a lot of good laughs that we needed.
